A Fitness Journey Memoir: 3 Mental Tips

What’s good! So, have you ever hit a mental block during your fitness journey?

If that’s you, I’ve got 3 quick mental tips I practiced during my own transformation and still keep top of mind today to help aid mental blocks.

Let’s hop into it!

Tip #1: Define Your “Why”

Define Your “Why.”

I can’t stress enough of how important it is to have a reason why you’re doing something. It’s a simple concept we all may forget to define, but having a clear reason for starting your journey is everything. It will help keep you focused, motivated, and pushing forward on the days you feel like giving up.

I don’t care what your reason is—and you don’t have to share it with anyone. Whether it’s for your health, to build confidence, or to get a bangin’ body…if it’s meaningful to you, that’s what matters. Own it and let it drive you.

Tip #2: Accept the Duration

Any type of transformation takes time and that’s not a bad thing.

Whether you want to get stronger, leaner, or do a full body recomposition, it’s not going to happen overnight. That’s totally fine. Be patient, and don’t rush the process. Fast results often don’t last, but a journey you enjoy? That’s sustainable.

So buckle up, embrace the long journey, and remember—patience and dedication can take you far. Don’t get frustrated, disappointed, or feel tempted to quit just because you’re not seeing instant results. Instead, take a step back, re-evaluate your approach, and make adjustments as needed to keep progressing. For example, if you’ve been doing the same workouts with the same amount of reps, weight, and rest time—switch it up! Try new exercises, shorten your rest, or increase the weight to keep challenging yourself and triggering that sweet progressive overload to spark real change.

Tip #3: “To Each Their Own”

Don't compare yourself to anyone else.

Just because someone may follow a certain diet, workout or routine that works for them, doesn't mean it will work for you…and that’s completely fine!! Part of your journey is figuring out what feels good, what doesn’t, and building something that works for you.

Enjoy the journey and don’t stress over the trial and error. Stay focused, consistent, keep showing up and adjusting as you go. You’re doing better than you think!

Let’s Round Out this Bad Girl…

1) Know Your “Why”

  • A clear, personal reason behind your fitness journey keeps you grounded and motivated—especially when things get tough.

2) Trust the Process

  • Real transformation takes time. Patience and consistency lead to lasting, sustainable results.

3) Do What Works for You

  • Everyone’s journey is different. Focus on what fits your body and lifestyle, and let go of comparison.
